In all my years renting cars in SXM have nevr had to make a deposit or provide a CC to secure a reservartion. That is why you should look at Hertz SXM or others mentioned. 10. Leisure Car Rental is FANTASTIC! We reserved online in advance and they met us at the airport with our name on a board and with the car, ready to go. For aprox $450 we rented a medium size car with full insurance and $0 deductible for the entire week in St. Maarten! SXM is a duty free port, so customs is rarely an issue (unlike AXA). I am sure they do random checks and if they have reason to suspect drugs or weapons, but they don't really care if you bring in a pair of NIkes for a friend on the island.
