870 if you can snag an older wing master (my personal favorite pump gun). Even some of the older express models are fine. Newer (and I mean in the last decade or so) express models like to lock up and have a worse fit/finish. Maverick 88 if you're buying brand new. It'll at least work, where the 870 will be a bit of a crapshoot.

The 590a1 feels like a tank, the heaviness helps with recoil. Its a combat shotgun, its nicer in every way, but theyre expensive. The maverick 88 functionally does the same thing with less rounds in the tube, it has an inferior cheap click safety, and its much lighter. The field/security combo offers you a lot of shotgun for ~500$.

I have a Mossberg 500 in 20ga pistol grip next to my bed. Love it. Finish is good, slide is smooth... its a good gun. This time I am going with a 12ga.
