I haven't shot it yet but I would imagine the extra tube length helps dampen muzzle flip. It might depend on your intended use for it.The steel and heat treating was always the same over the years. The Python was designed to shoot any factory level .357 loads, and was the strongest medium frame .357 revolver until more modern guns like the Colt Trooper Mark III and S&W 686 came out. King cobra now that they make the python in a 3 inch is fairly similar, however I would say the KC is more of a carry gun, python is more of a range gun. It has better sights then the KC, and more then likely a solid frame.
