Might sounds crazy, and not related... but check the air intake pipe, you might have an air leak or worn pipe. The VTM4 system utilizes Engine speed as reference, air leak will provoke bad flow meter measurement, increasing the engine speed above commanded by the ECM (is not a noticeable increment, just a hair of difference between engine commanded and actual speed will trigger the FC)
