Apr 8, 2017 · The OP's issue most likely has nothing to do with being "low" on DEF. There's an issue with the system that requires a trip to the dealer. I never add any DEF until I get the warning message and at that point I add 2.5 gallons and wait until I see the next warning.
Then, press back the gas pedal. The glow plug should flash a few times before stopping. Turn the vehicle off and wait for about 10 seconds before you turn it on once more.
