Weapon multi hit zomboid.
With multi hit a crit crits all targets, but the damage they each take is variable. With multi hit you also get reduced exp with weapons. The setting assumes you're always hitting the maximum number of targets possible with a multi hit weapon. So if a crowbar only hits 2 enemies, you get 2/3 the normal exp because it could hit 3.

Nah, it is how folks like to play it, their decision their oppinion. Just like how some folks burn down massive hordes of zombies, or use the crate and fence tactic.
