Honda says the PGM-FI compensates for altitude up to 12 or 13K', and i have no reason not to believe them, since the thing runs perfectly well at that height. Bad mapping isn't the problem. As you pointed out, altitude power loss is un-avoidable, and at 9800' the Pioneer looses something like 10HP.
