May 28, 2022 · Ok so I have an Onan in my 318 a P218 (I think no markings) that is not getting spark. I crank and crank but nothing even with starter fluid. It was running and I was mowing then it lost power like it was on one cyl then came back I though it was fuel related. but no. It did that 3 times.

Often a 318 will get too flooded to restart hot -- this is due to the engine heat soaking into the carburetor when the engine first stops (and there is no air flow from the engine flywheel blower...) This heat expands the cool gas that was just delivered into the float chamber and forces some up and into the manifold, causing the flooding.Cleaned off the pickup on the flywheel, ran a new lead from trigger unit to coil, and tractor fired right up. Shut it off, let sit a minute, fired right back up. Let itnsit 10 minutes and now no spark again.
