P0988 is also a fluid pressure issue. The last 3 will most likely be caused by the first. You can't get it to work in any gear other than 1st when you start from a stop and 4th. That's what limp mode is. The truck is protecting what's left of the transmission. The codes have to be cleared to get it out of limp.The cause: about 100K miles prior, 5th gear had come off. The repair performed involved a thrust washer. The thrust washer came off, went through the gear case and was caught on the magnet on the bottom of the tranny case. When it went through the case, it chiped some teeth and misalighed 5th and the shift fork.If it tries to shift into 5th (and slips, then aborts) it should set a P0735 fault, and put you into logical limp-in (1st and 4th gears only). If that is what's happening, you probably have a burned OD clutch. But if the TCM is never telling it to shift, then the problem is likely in the PCM (or the throttle or output speed reading).

I have a 6-speed automatic transmission. The transmission went to 4th and skidded the tires significant enough to create smoke from the tires. Downshifting from 6th to 4th at 65 (or even 75+) mph shouldn't cause the tires to lock up. It might cause a 1500 +/- rpm jump, but that should be nowhere close to tire lockup.

Mar 5, 2017 · 4.7L. Figured out how to take the plug off. Press the tab in, on the top middle of the plug. Than Slide the red locking tab down. Next pull the gray latch down. I used a pry bar to gently pry the bottom of the plug at the same time pushing the gray latch down.

The part cost $65. 1hr labor to install, $120. They are easy to repalce, but the mech there cautioned me that it has an adjustable mount and has to be adjusted correctly to operate properly.
