Glenfield 30a vs marlin 336.
Hi fellas, first post here. I’ve wanted a Marlin lever gun for quite some time now. Still don’t have it though. 😐 My LGS has a Glenfield 30A on the shelf. It’s a 1968 vintage. Metal is pretty good, but clearly been used. Most of the flathead screws are somewhat boogered up, not terrible, but not like new. Action is very slick.

When I Run Factory ammo over my Chrony they are all Close the Marlin is on average 30fps faster than the 94 the 788 with it's 22' Barrel is 30 fps faster than the 30 Glenfeild Marlin. But it ends with Factory ammo! the 788 is King with reloads, but it aint sexy like my old Glenfeild.
I heard that the 30AS is just a cheaper version of the 336. Is There a quality difference? are parts interchangable? is it just a price diference? I am asking beacause …
I suspect production of this model ceased long before Remington became involved. Model 30AS was also manufactured in 1983 as a Glenfield rifle. Hope this is interesting, if not helpful. These models have walnut-stained hardwood stocks (as opposed to American Walnut stocks) and were sold for significantly lower prices than standard Model 336's. Like Richard said, the 30aw is basically a 336 with different furniture and some exterior hardware. Internally they are identical. Seems as far as a 336, need ALL of these to be sure: - Serial number DOES NOT begin with 92, 91, 90, or MR. - Serial number stamped on tang – The Marlin 336 beginning in 1948 and continuing through 2007 have a serial number stamped on the tang where the receiver attaches to the stock.
