my recent example is tiny map with endgame of 4 ai alive and ~6 city states. was suzerain of 5 cities and ally of 2 AI.. was doing science victory. just trying to load a city screen can take up to 10 to 15 seconds. perhaps it would run better if did not see the whole map. doesnt stop me from playing yet though.. im a patient man.

It's the "Large" and "Huge" maps that are bigger on civ5 than civ6, civ6 "Huge" being equivalent to the civ5 "Large". I forget the exact name but there is a huge map mod that adds three map sizes after huge.In civ 6, large maps are 96 by 60 in size. In Civ 5 they were 104 by 64. That's a shrink of about 14 percent. Huge maps went from 128 by 80 and became 106 by 66. That's a drop of 30% world space. While all other map sizes have increased, the largest have actually decreased in size.As stinkubus said, the gameplay in 6 is most likely balanced for small maps. Tech trees cost the same on all map sizes (this may have been a bad idea) and the current nature of the game (wider is better) means that on larger maps, if you use the extra lebensraum, you'll blast through the tree. A tip though, move your warrior first to reveal some more terrain before you settle. Moving him onto a hill will reveal more. As long as forest or jungle aren't obscuring his view.
