The issue is that often when it is in high acceleration, such as turning onto a freeway, etc the whole car stutters and there is no power. I can back off of the acceleration and its just fine.

Yep, it is a common problem. So many people have this issue. They will want to change the wiring harness. However in most cases that is just a bandaid. The next step is to replace the Control Arm Shift Lever. I don't know why there has not been a recall about this. If you are out of warranty, I would fight to have it covered or at least part of it.
